How To Find The Right Piece Of Art For Your Home

Having an original piece of art in your home can really elevate your interior design, adding your personality to the house or flat and making it stand out from the crowd.

However, choosing the right type of artwork can be difficult, as there are so many styles to pick between and so many artists to explore.

You could have an abstract art oil painting hanging in your hallway or a fine art print in your bedroom; embellished canvas art on your staircase or contemporary designs in your downstairs’ bathroom.

Sophie Goldhill from Liddicoat & Goldhill architecture studios told The BBC: “Art offers an opportunity to link different design elements, such as contrasting materials or colours, in a space, ensuring it doesn’t feel disjointed.”

She recommends choosing a piece of art that either reflects or complements other elements of the room, such as the furniture, the fabrics, the colour and tone. Therefore, it is best to decide where you want the artwork to go and choose one that fits in with the space.

You should also consider your own style, as it needs to showcase your personality and the things you enjoy, from landscapes to retro prints.

The type of artwork you opt for will vary according to what room you are decorating. An eye-catching piece, for instance, is ideal for the living room, as this can take centre stage.

However, you might prefer multiple smaller pieces for your hallway, something calming like landscapes for your bedroom, and bold, quirky art for your kitchen.

Once you have an idea in mind of what you would like, look at online platforms, art fairs and local art galleries to find something that speaks to you.
