3 Top Tips For Commissioning A Painting
If you want a truly unique piece of art for your home or business, one of the best options is to commission a painting from an artist whose work you admire.
And as you’re reading this blog, we’re guessing you’re a fan of Carla Raads’ work. She carries out commissions so please reach out if you are interested in exploring working with her to create the perfect piece of art for your wall.
Should you decide to commission a painting though, what do you need to tell the artist you’re working with? We’ve got three top tips for you to help get your commission off to a good start.
-
Begin with a discussion
While it is great if you have a clear idea of what you’d like from your artwork, it’s important to approach the artist with a collaborative mindset. Commissioning a painting usually starts with a conversation where you can share what you’re looking for.
If you aren’t particularly visual, think about what you want from the perspective of the feelings you’d like the painting to invoke, or the colour palette you’d like to use.
-
Think about where you’ll hang your painting
It is often helpful to tell the artist where you intend to hang the finished painting. Sharing the colours of the interior in your home or business can also be valuable as this helps the artist create a piece of work that will fit seamlessly into the space.
-
Share reference pieces if you have them
There might be a previous painting by the artist that you particularly like, or you may have examples of work in a similar style by other artists that you like. If you have a specific concept or aesthetic in mind, please share it.
This makes it much easier for the artist to create a painting in line with your vision for the finished piece. Avoid being vague if you are thinking about a specific concept.
